The Other Woman

This (most recent) episode of Mad Men just pushed this show into being my favorite show ever.

Wow.

And yes, it takes a lot for me to state this.

Let’s hope this show doesn’t let me down going forward.

So much said in one single episode.

The writers are geniuses.

Carnage

We watched this movie tonight and I loved it.

I haven’t seen a solid film in a while. The cast worked well together, each new scene was more interesting than the last, and the character development was fascinating.

The film produced great conversation and I know I’ll be thinking about for the next few days.

We went to our first baseball game as a family this past Monday night.

We went to see the Seattle Mariners play the Texas Rangers and Darvish was pitching.

There have only been two Asian men I have been attracted to in my entire life: Bruce Lee and now Darvish.

I was also given a baseball glove for Mother’s Day because I enjoy playing catch at the park.

The kids and I didn’t make it through the entire game because they were too tired, but it was fun while we were there.

The Pony Man

Here is the link to the site Nick did for our friends who are film makers.

All four of us also had small parts in the movie that we filmed on Vashon Island last year.

Enjoy!

One of the best handmade gifts I was given recently.

It’s a homemade heating pad and I think I may copy this idea as gifts for my friends in the future. It’s a fabric bag of beans and spices you throw in the microwave and put around your neck or anywhere you may need it.

Thank you for this, Lisa.

I use it often.

Panic

I didn’t think it was possible for me to feel panic the way I did today.

Anna’s school called me and had left a message on my phone explaining (as I was finishing my morning shift at work) that Anna was not there and they needed to know the reason for her absence. I knew Nick had taken her this morning so immediately my mind went into a complete whirlwind of unhealthy thoughts and worries.

Between the time they had left the message and when someone finally called me back was a total of almost five minutes which felt like an eternity.

The entire thing was “just a miscommunication with Anna’s teacher” (according to the woman who called) that took me quite a while to get over.

I’m thankful it was a false alarm (although my heart would tell you a different story), and I’m glad I didn’t shit my pants.

When I prep food for the week I like to make the most of what I have in our pantry and refrigerator.

If I boil and shred chicken I’ll use it two different ways. This week I made a big batch of chicken salad (which is mostly what you see on the counter rather than full of mayo) and a small batch of chicken enchilada casserole. Making the enchiladas casserole style helps make the most of the little corn tortillas I had left. Chicken salad is great as a sandwich, but I also enjoy it on a good bed of lettuce as well.

If I’m going to spend an afternoon in my kitchen I want to make the most of my time and energy.

I’m happy with the results this week.

I’d like to take a moment to clarify my opinions on this company.

CB2 catalogs began being mailed to me when we moved here to Seattle. I have no idea how it started. Having said that, I began drooling over some of their products because of the clean lines and presentation that appeals to my obsession with symmetry.

However, I must admit it will probably be a long time until I have any of their major pieces of furniture, if ever. Their prices are for a different stage of life, one that we aren’t in right now. The stage of life where all debt is paid off, kids are older, and traveling is a reality not just a dream.

We were given some of the best advice when we first got married: Fight fair and live beneath your means.

Both points are far more profound than I realized at the time I was given the advice. I’m beginning to understand much more about money now and how to fight fair with my spouse.

I look forward to the day the debt from our little old house in Texas is paid off. Long story, and frankly, a hard one to talk about.

I look forward to having a much more substantial savings that reflects the hard work and good choices we’ve made along the way.

I look forward to being free of the debt that is a reminder of things we would have done differently if we could ever do them over again.

I have a deep respect for those who are wise with money. It’s a difficult thing to master but rewarding when done well.

Money isn’t everything, but it makes way for some amazing opportunities.

We’ll see what the future holds.

LeiLani’s first manicure and pedicure.

She chose the colors and the glitter to go over all of the colors.

She was told that if she stopped biting her nails I would do this for her.

She was so happy while we shared this moment that she told me another secret about her crush at school Oskar.

She said he makes her laugh.

I couldn’t be more proud.
